Shoey's stuff

Post by Shoey on Wed 25 Jun 2008, 2:39 am

Here is a couple of sketches done a while ago. I got a few more somewhere.
the VH was done for my mates 21st. they are both about 45cm in size.
I spent 6 years in the art department at the Morning Bulletin newspaper.
and 12 years signwriting, all this comes in handy for building models.

Back wheels a bit wonky.

Some signwriting I have done where I work. these are 3.6m wide in size.

this is the entrance, done with some help from my brother. Since this pic was taken the mural has been finished

Very nice work Shoey - I was in the art department of Standard Newspapers for many years, so we share something there. Did you also use a spray gun for some of the Brocky effects, or is that dry brushing?

The pencil drawings also brought back memories of my days at General Motors in their design department - pencil on film for initial visual drawings, pen and ink for line drawings, and then on to the marker pens and lighter fluid for the flashy stuff.

Thanks guys for your comments, I served my time with the newspapers from 86 to 92.
the Brocky car in red was done using the stipple effect (a rolled up piece of rag) and the orange one I cheated and used an airbrush. Its great to chat to another graphic artist, as for Bryce we might have to take his left nut and teach him to draw....lol

Oh yeah the old "stipple rag" trick - I recall doing something similar with an old sponge for a slot car track many years ago. As for Bryce well he is a very talented person in his own right Shoey, but I agree we could "twist" a nut or two and encourage his drawing skills further.

I was with Standard for fifteen years from 1975 as a graphic artist/visualiser doing advertisements and artwork for their many newspapers at the time (it's now Leader Newspapers). I'll see if I can dig up some more of my previous drawings to put on the forum.

Shoey's Stuff

Post by forbidden on Thu 03 Jul 2008, 8:51 pm

I Have done some pencil work on and off over the last few years, just have to find my mojo again and do a few more works, I try not to stick with the same subject matter but some things come up that make the process worth it. Love your work Shoey, really nice.

John

BTW Bryce now that your left nut is occupied your right one is either going to be overworked or very lonely Very Happy .

Would like to see some of that John - how about you dig it out and post some pics?

As for my nuts, with two kids under three, rest assured they're in no danger of getting overworked... Laughing

The sketching thing

Post by forbidden on Thu 03 Jul 2008, 9:08 pm

Hello Bryce, I haven't done much of the auto art but I want to draw cars that are different and have a story to tell, in recent times I have been interested in the golden age of drag racing as well as land speed and other specilized vehicles. Now all I have to do is get two cars built before the end of the year and see what pans out Wink .

John
